Senator Darrell Steinberg to Address Alliance Lunch, "Going Green & Clean"
State Senator Darrell Steinberg, Chairman of the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee and in line to be the next Senate President Pro Tem, will be the featured speaker at the Power Inn Alliance 14th Annual Lunch on March 11. Steinberg, who was co-founder of The Alliance and remains as a Director Emeritus, served as City Councilman for the 6th. District.

Peer-to-Peer “Business Walk” to Hear Concerns of Power Inn Firms on March 5
The Power Inn Alliance, in partnership with the City of Sacramento and the Sacramento Metro Chamber, will be visiting businesses in this area door-to-door on the morning of March 5, 2008 to find out what they like about doing business here and what can be done to make it even better. Ambassador teams from The Alliance and Metro Chamber, plus staff from the City Economic Development Department will be out in the community on the “Business Walk” for approximately 3 hours that morning, between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. making random calls on local firms. “This is an excellent way for us to find out what the big issues are and to discover how businesses in the new Clean Tech Enterprize Zone are taking advantage of the benefits offered,” said Economic Development Director Dave Spaur.
The Metro Chamber has conducted several “Business Walks” in various business districts in the area, including West Sacramento and Arden Arcade. Alliance members who wish to participate in this peer-to-peer contact event are invited to register online at
http://www.metrochamber.org/CWT/External/WCPages/WCEvents/EventDetail.aspx?EventID=6527
Or call the Alliance at 453-8888. The event starts with breakfast at 8:00 am at Sacramento Recycling and ends after lunch at 1:30 pm.

Deputy Sherriff Stan Hong writes up a scofflaw who didn't think the sign on 14th. Ave. meant what it said. |

14th Avenue Just Got a Little Safer
After daily close-call car crashes and three smashed trucks, 14th Avenue between Power Inn Road and the Garlic Grille Cafe just got a little safer. Employees of local businesses were parking their cars halfway on the street to avoid a deep ditch. But those lost few feet prevented cars and trucks from easily passing each other. It used to be a white-knuckle experience when big trucks barrel down the roadway and cars had nowhere to go to safely pass. In January, a pickup truck turning left from Power Inn Rd. smashed into two trucks that slowed to squeeze by each other. Twenty feet of skid marks are still visible.
The Alliance thanks Traffic Investigator Tara Barretto of the Department of Transportation, who came out and answered Dawn Carlson’s request for a safer street. Barretto submitted her investigation in early January and by mid-February new “No Parking” signs were installed on both sides of the 14th Avenue. Parking will be enforced by County Sheriffs and City Code Enforcement.
