ALLIANCE SCORES FREE BIKES FOR CSUS STUDENTS WHO PLEDGE THEY'RE CAR-FREE
******************************************************************** Sacramento State University (CSUS) will be the recipient of a $28,000 grant from the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) to provide free bikes to students who pledge not to drive to campus. This grant, which was sought by the Power Inn Alliance as part of its Transportation Management mission, will eliminate as many as 100 car trips a day from off campus, primarily by students living in the Upper East Side Lofts at 65th and Folsom.
Go Green/Get Gold is part of $140,000 SACOG program to launch unique pilot projects that will reduce total vehicular miles travelled (VMT) in the area. In exchange for a free bike and safety equipment, each participating student will sign a pledge not to drive to local trips for one year or buy a CSUS parking pass. In addition to providing bicycles, Go Green/Get Gold educates CSUS students through an experiential opportunity of the benefits derived from adopting an alternative transit-oriented lifestyle. This program alleviates traffic congestion around the University and lowers vehicle emissions, while aiding in the affordability of a college education by eliminating the need and costs associated with vehicle ownership.
CSUS will provide an “in kind” match of marketing, website, facilities for training seminars, maintenance of bike lanes and new bicycle parking. The Alliance will provide a program administration and management. Corporate sponsorships will be at or below cost maintenance and equipment. Total grant and in-kind contributions for the first phase of this program are estimated to be $70,000.

TABLE STAKES: ALLIANCE NEW OFFICE NEEDS CONFERENCE TABLE/CHAIRS
****************************************************************** Sometime in early November, the Power Inn Alliance World Headquarters will be moving a half mile south to 5310 Power Inn Rd. Part of the appeal of this new space, in addition to being visibly located in the heart of the area, is the opportunity to create a large conference room for Alliance meetings and community functions.
BUT WE NEED A CONFERENCE TABLE. And we're hoping one of our many members may have such a table and chairs they're trying to dispose of at a reasonable price or know of another organization that does.
If you do, call Jerry at 453-888. Remember, The Alliance is a nonprofit association - so it's a write-off.
