MAYOR KEVIN JOHNSON TO BE FEATURED SPEAKER AT 15th ANNUAL AWARDS LUNCHEON MARCH 19
**************************************************************** Tickets are likely to be a scarce commodity for the Alliance 15th Annual Awards Luncheon on Thursday, March 19. Kevin Johnson will make his first appearance since becoming Sacramento Mayor at the luncheon and will be the principal speaker. His speech will focus on what the City plans to do to “Meet the Challenge of the Times” and maintain services during this economic recession.

Also appearing on the podium at the Sac State Alumni Center with the Mayor will be 6th District Councilmember Kevin McCarty. “We’re delighted to have these two City leaders,” said Alliance Chairman Dave Sikich. “We’ll be looking to them for ways to improve the economy and create jobs, especially in this part of town.”

Several major Awards will also be presented including: Best Infrastructure Improvement, Best New Development, Business of the Year, Member of the Year and “Top Cop,” recognizing the outstanding efforts of an SPD officer who works the Power Inn area.

Invitations will be in the mail this week. Tickets are $50 members, $60 nonmembers and $500 for table sponsors. For more information contact Barb Nobriga at 453-8888 or barb@powerinn.org.

Participants will learn how Sacramento's Police and Fire Chiefs plan to maintain high quality service during troubled economic times at the February 26 Crime & Dine.
POLICE AND FIRE CHIEFS TAKE THEIR CASE BEFORE "CRIME & DINE"
******************************************************************** Rounding out major presentations by City leaders will be Chief of Police Rick Braziel and Fire Chief Ray Jones who will speak at the February 26 luncheon meeting of Crime & Dine. This will be an open forum (two-way discussion) on what their departments are doing to maintain emergency services. In addition, they will discuss the impacts of fewer staff, the economy’s impact on the Power Inn police patrols, what is being done to prevent further cuts, how tough economic times affect the crime rate, and what we can do as a community.

Sponsored by L and D Landfill and hosted at Sacramento Recycling and Transfer Station, this is the first of three Crime & Dines planned for the year. “They always draw a good crowd,” said Security and Crime Abatement Committee Chairman Tom Burruss. “In the Business Walk of 2008, we found that local business owners cited crime as one of their top concerns, so this luncheon is usually a sell-out.” In addition, District 6 Lt. Mike Bray will compare local crime statistics for the past FOURyears.

Crime & Dine tickets, which include lunch, are $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers. Reservations are a must. Call or email Dawn Carlson at 453-8888 or dawn@powerinn.org.
