ALLIANCE AIMS TO PLANT 1,000 TREES
*************************************************************
Time was, before settlement took hold, that the Power Inn area was forested with trees that had grown along the ever-migrating course of the American River. But the cultivation of vineyards, hops fields and dairy farms, the sprouting of power lines, and the quarrying of gravel mines severely reduced the shady canopy. Now the Power Inn Alliance has a plan to bring the trees back.
Teaming with the Sacramento Tree Foundation and SMUD, The Alliance is asking members and stakeholders to literally stake up a young tree. The Foundation oversees the program and SMUD buys and delivers the trees free of charge. All a business owner or resident has to do is select 1 - 10 trees from over 60 varieties, plant and maintain them.
“We couldn’t have made the process easier,” said Executive Director Jerry Vorpahl. "call us and we will contact the Tree Foundation to set up a site visit with a Community Forester, who will advise on type, location and maintenance."
SMUD will deliver the tree(s), along with stakes ties and expert planting advice. In most cases, the expert will be Burnie Lenau, Alliance Vice Chairman and owner of Lawnman, Inc, who is SMUD-trained-and-approved for installation of all trees and offers a 28% discount ($25 per tree) to Alliance members. Call The Alliance at 453-8888 TOstart rooting for trees.
