POWER INN’S CLEAN TECH ENTERPRISE ZONE GETS RENEWED FOR 15 YEARS
**********************************************************
Helping to grow jobs and improve the Power Inn Area’s business climate, the California Department of Housing and Community Development recently approved a 15-year renewal for the Clean Technology Energy Zone which is within The Alliance Business Improvement District. Other Sacramento area E-Zones, including Army Depot, were also included in the renewal.
“This is good news for employers and employees in the Zone,” said Alliance Executive Director and CEO Jerry Vorpahl. “Not only can businesses realize huge tax savings on equipment purchases, but they also have incentives to increase employment opportunities.”
Businesses within the Enterprise Zone are eligible for substantial tax credits and benefits, for example: Firms can earn $37,440 or more in state tax credits for each qualified employee hired and corporations can earn sales tax credits on purchases of $20 million per year of qualified machinery and machinery parts.
In addition, the up-front expensing of certain property can be depreciated, while lenders to E-Zone businesses may receive a net interest deduction. Also, unused tax credits can be applied to future years, stretching out the benefit of the initial investment.
“E-Zones are a proven factor in economic recovery,” said Vorpahl. “Statistics show that poverty rates within E-Zones declined by over 7% more than the rest of the state over a 10-year period while household incomes increased by the same percentage.”
Formerly called the, “Florin-Perkins Enterprise Zone,” it was renamed the, “Clean Technology Enterprise Zone” by the City Council in 2007 to reflect the growing interest in technology and clean energy in this area. The Alliance worked closely with the Sacramento Dept. of Economic Development to win renewal.

SEWER PROJECT TO IMPACT NORTHBOUND POWER INN TRAFFIC BEGINNING SEPT. 21
****************************************************************************************************************************************
In an effort to maintain reliable sewer service, the Sacramento Area Sewer District has begun construction activities earlier this month to rehabilitate the eight-miles of the Central Trunk Sewer pipeline.
During the week of September 21, construction crews will begin work to clean the first section of the Central Trunk sewer pipeline along Power Inn Road, between Fruitridge and Lemon Hill Roads. This activity will occur during the evening hours from 6 pm - 6 am to minimize impacts to local businesses, residents and motorists. Construction activities will not affect sewer service, but will affect northbound traffic on Power Inn Road.
After the sewer pipeline is cleaned, the lining will be inserted through the manhole into the sewer and hardened in place using hot water or steam. Liner installation will occur between the hours of 9 am and 6 am. There will be heavy equipment onsite, as well as possible lane closures along northbound Power Inn Road, between Lemon Hill and Fruitridge Roads.
All construction activities will take place at designated sewer manholes throughout the eight-mile corridor. During construction, the public should expect temporary lane closures, noise, and other typical construction-related impacts. Access to local businesses and residences will be maintained throughout construction. There will be limited digging and sewer service will be maintained at all times.
