Power Inn’s Squeeze Inn Grand Opening March 11

One of Sacramento’s best known restaurant, The Squeeze Inn, will hold its Grand Opening at a new, much larger location on Thursday, March 11 at 12:30 pm. On hand to welcome the old and new crowd will be Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and Councilman Kevin McCarty, plus local dignitaries and burger lovers, including landlord John Jackson, Jr.

The Squeeze Inn’s expansion/relocation was prompted by an ADA lawsuit filed against the restaurant at its original location on Fruitridge Road. Although the lawsuit was later dropped, the Squeeze Inn’s owners, Travis and Vicki Hausauer, decided to relocate to a new retail center (around the corner from its original location) owned and managed by Jackson Properties, Inc. The new restaurant integrates many of the elements of the original restaurant into its interior design including the original counter, stools and memorabilia, but adds much needed additional parking, seating and accessibility.

“The Squeeze” has been a Sacramento landmark for over thirty years at its original Fruitridge location, and was purchased in 2001 by Travis and Vicki Hausauer. The restaurant gained national prominence as one of the country’s best burger joints when it was featured on a Food Network show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.”

Crimes Against Business Down in Power Inn Area Since 2007

Based on reported crimes, the incidence of criminal activity against business in the Power Inn Area has steadily declined since 2007. Business burglaries are down 32%; petty theft (under $400) down 79%; grand theft (over $400) down 33%; and vandalism down 61%.

While some crimes have increased (robberies up 50%), the trend has definitely been going down. But Alliance Program Manager Dawn Carlson, who coordinates the Security and Crime Abatement programs, warns that this is not the whole picture. “This is for ‘reported crimes’ only,” she says, “and we know that a lot of crimes unfortunately go unreported. So it’s important to report all crimes since it affects the level of patrol received.”

The Alliance began its Security Abatement program in 2007 as part of the new Business Improvement District and continues to educate business on crime prevention through the popular Crime & Dine Luncheons. Tom Burruss is chairman of the Crime Committee.
